Overview [Spring 2005]
The Town of Cary will widen Evans Road to five lanes between Northwest
Maynard Road and Thorpe Drive to relieve congestion and reduce travel
time. The Town has budgeted $3,355,000 for the project through bonds that
Cary voters approved in 1999.
The one-mile segment will have two lanes in each direction with a two-way
turn lane. Outside lanes will be wider to accommodate bicycles, and sidewalks
will be installed on both sides. An illustration
of the proposed roadway is provided.
Construction Begins – Fall 2005
Construction Ends – Fall 2006
Right-of-Way:
Old Width – 60 to 90 feet
New Width – 90 feet
(Negotiations occur before construction begins)
Appraisals take into
account the property that construction will alter and also the effect
on existing fences, walls, trees and other features. The Town writes each
property owner for a meeting to discuss the effect of the project and
present a compensation offer. Property owners usually have at least 30
days to accept the offer.
