Place recycling bins at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day for recycling. If collection does not occur, call the Department of Public Works and Utilities at (919) 469-4090.

Yard waste is picked up on Mondays. There is no yard waste collection during weeks that have holidays.

The Cary Recycles curbside program will accept the following items:

  • Newspaper, including inserts (Place on top of other recyclables in the bin and use a bungee cord to securely fasten.)
  • Glass bottles & jars (clear, brown & green)
  • Plastic bottles #1,2,5,7 (neck is smaller than the base)
  • Aluminum cans, foil, and pie pans (no food residue)
  • Tin/Steel food cans
  • Cartons with a gable top (including juice, milk, dairy creamers, and fabric softener refills)
  • Drink boxes
  • 6-pack rings (soft flimsy ones only)

Please place the following items next to the recycling bin:

  • Glossy magazines/catalogs - place in a bag next to the recycling bin to prevent contamination with newspaper.
  • Corrugated cardboard - Flatten and cut into 2' x 3' pieces (not folded) so
can they fit into the recycling truck. Do not include pizza boxes, cereal
boxes or similar cardboard. If you have more corrugated cardboard than can
fit in your bin – a stack of moving boxes for example – call (919) 469-4090
to schedule a free pickup. Please remove and properly dispose of all
packing material, and flatten the boxes.

Recyclable materials that are mixed with items not on the list or otherwise improperly prepared may may require disposal at the landfill.
