& Recyclables Directory – Select a material and find out

Wake County you may take it.
Appliances/White
Goods
Refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers and similar appliances are
considered to be "white goods." These items can be picked up curbside
for $15 for each appliance. Call (919) 469-4090 to schedule a pickup.
White goods can also be dropped off at the Cary Citizen Convenience Center
for $9 or taken to the Wake
County Multi-Material Facility.
Bulky
Trash
This is considered as items inappropriate to place in the garbage truck
for compacting. Examples of the most common bulky trash items are large
televisions, furniture, gas grills, wheel barrows, bicycles, and swing
sets. The Town of Cary will come and pick up these items at your home
for a fee. The fee is $11 for the first item picked up curbside and $7 for each additional item gathered during the same trip. (For example, the costs are $18 for two items or $25 for three items.) You can also
dispose of these items at the Citizen's
Convenience Center.
Curbside
Trash Guidelines
Curbside trash includes lamps, telephones, small hand appliances, clothes,
buckets, shovels, and other miscellaneous "junk" resulting from
cleaning out the attic, closet, or garage. Curbside trash should be set
within 6 feet from the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection
day. Curbside trash is collected on the same day as your household trash.
These items can also be taken to the Citizen's Convenience Center.
Dead
animals
Dead animals are accepted for disposal at either the North Wake (9004
Deponie Dr., Raleigh) or Feltonsville Sanitary (6000 Old Smithfield Road,
Apex) Landfills so long as they are not microbiological or pathological
waste. Town crews will pickup animal carcasses found in the street or
on the curbside in a plastic bag. Call the Department of Public Works
and Utilities at (919) 469-4090 to request collection.

Waste Disposal

information
Household
Garbage Guidelines
Household garbage is waste from interior household receptacles. It typically
includes food scraps and other solid waste from food preparation. Household
garbage should be contained in a maximum of four (4) 32 gallon containers,
not to exceed 100 pounds total, and is collected from the backyard once
a week. Containers should be
tightly covered, have handles, and be free of holes or other hand hazards.
Please seal garbage in plastic bags. Do not mix yard waste with garbage.
Be sure that ashes are fully extinguished before disposing. Medical waste/syringes
should be properly contained before disposal by placing in a puncture-proof
plastic bottle, coffee can, etc.
Inclement Weather
(snowstorms, ice storms, hurricanes, etc.)
Please bring garbage cans to the curb after snowstorms, ice storms, hurricanes
or other weather emergencies. This helps keep collectors safe and prevents
carts from damaging back yards. If you are physically unable to take garbage
to the curb or have questions, call (919) 469-4090.
Paint
Disposal
Latex paint can be properly disposed of by following these guidelines:
If there is only an inch or two left, dry it out by setting in the sun
for several hours. If there's a half-gallon or more, mix it with kitty
litter, sawdust, or sand to dry out. Once dry, set outside as curbside
trash by 7:00 am on your garbage collection day. Lid must be off or loose
for collection.
Oil-based paint is
considered household
hazardous waste and is not collected.
Yard
Waste Collection
Yard waste is collected on Monday, throughout the Town, unless there is
a holiday scheduled during the week. Yard waste consists of vegetative
matter collected as a result of landscaping. All soil must be removed.
Examples of yard waste include grass clippings, brush, leaves and limbs.
Limbs should be no longer than 4 feet or larger than 4 inches in diameter.
The maximum volume of curbside yard waste for regular collection at each
home on one day cannot exceed 240 cubic feet (8 feet long by 5 feet wide
by 6 feet). Two men must be able to load it into the truck within 10 minutes.
Yard waste should
be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, in reusable
containers, paper bags, or securely tied bundles. Yard waste contained
in plastic bags will not be collected. Yard waste will not be collected
during a week containing a Town observed holiday.
